How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010750 / WP717273 Rubber Washer

I shut off the electrical and water supply and disconnected the water line and waste line of the dishwasher. Removed from the cabinet. Took off nuts and removed heating element. Then put everything back together and put the dishwasher back in the cabinet. I ran a cycle looking for issues, but none were found. The replacement of the heating element was easy, it was the removal of the machine that was tedious and time-consuming. The video was very helpful in this project, thank you. 

After some research, I determined that I needed a new Dishwasher Heating Element, and replaced it. 

I replaced the Heating Element. 

It took longer to pull the unit out than it did to replace the heating element. 

Removed the dishwasher for access to the underside, which is required for this replacement. The replacement process was very straightforward. Other than removing the dishwasher from the cabinet, the repair only took about 20 minutes. Easy. 

Replaced the heating element. It fixed the problem. Now I just need to reprogram the control to eliminate the blinking light. 

Appliance Parts Pros (APP) had the replacement heating element in stock. Some other do-it-yourselfers recommended also purchasing the two rubber washers/gaskets, so I did. The repair followed APP's video very closely and was easy to complete. I took my time, didn't rush, made sure everything went back together the way it came apart. Before fully screwing down the dishwasher, I ran a full cycle with a partial load of dishes. This ensured 1) My electrical re-assembly was correct 2) I had no water leaks 3) The heating element was working properly. In the end, no leftover parts or screws and the two rubber washers were not needed. The new heating element already had the rubber washers mounted on the electrical posts. I took a chance and replaced the heating coil. It solved the problem, though it seemed like a bit of a gamble. Since there was no definitive code to know for sure that the heating element would shut the machine off at different cycle times and since the code showing was inconsistent, it could have been a control board. If that were the case it would have probably made more sense to buy a new dishwasher since this one is about 10 years old. The most effort in replacing the part was the removal of the hard-wiring of the electrical supply to the dishwasher. I'm not sure why there was no plug-in provided instead of a hard-wire into a common junction box since my house had new wiring when it was remodeled but it that's where most of my two hours was spent. If not for that, the replacement would have taken no more than maybe 45 minutes. BTW, you won't need new washers, they are included with the element. Just get new nuts. 

Pulled the dishwasher away from the wall, reached under and removed the 2 wires from the element, using a set of pliers, used a adjustable wrench to remove the plastic 2 inch nuts, reached inside and lift up the old element and replaced it with the new. 

I replaced the heating element after testing it and finding it bad(no continuity). Also I cleaned the entire tub area outside with a garden hose. The pump sump area as well. It had 2in of build up around the edges. After plugging hann in the control board took about 1/2 day to reset itself. I thought it might also be bad but it finally ran and started working. I think it needed water to get in all the sensors. I didn't think this repair was to complicated but in a plumber by trade.
