Steven E Carlton , MN November 29, 2015 Appliance: Model WHIRLPOOL WASHING MACHINE Agitator no longer rotated agitator drive shaft splines were rusted and worn down which in turn caused female splines inside the agitator to wear down agitator was just slipping on the drive shaft I ordered a new agitator. I used a Dremel tool to clean up the splines on the agitator drive shaft as best I could as they were pretty well rusted away. I purchased J B Weld with a high psi rating. I slipped a rubber water hose washer over the drive shaft and pushed it down to the bottom of the spline. I liberally coated the splines with the J B Weld. The reason for the hose washer was to help keep the J B Weld from oozing out the bottom of the splines as I lowered the agitator onto the shaft. Make sure the agitator hold-down cover remains good and tight. Then I let it cure for 48 hours before operating the washing machine. It's been working perfectly now for more than 4 months. Saved us from having to buy a new washing machine. 20 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
