I have an Amana refrigerator model SXD26VW. Periodically I was having an issue with refrigerator side not seeming like it was getting cool enough. I placed a thermometer in the fridge and was measuring temperatures ranging between 33 and 50 degrees F. Often, when the temperature was above 40 F, I noted that the compressor and fans were not running. Researching possible causes on-line, must likely causes were defrost timer and refrigerator temperature control assembly. I decided my temperature control thermostat was faulty after observing that, with the refrigerator temperature above 40 F, the compressor and fans would start when I tapped on the control box at the top of the refrigerator. I ordered new thermostat from AppliancePartsPros. I could not find a video that showed how to exchange the thermostat on this model. An issue I ran into when installing new part was that I struggled to understand the routing of the temperature sensing element (the capillary tube). To get some assistance, I initiated an on-line chat with and an AppliancePartsPros Associate. The associate researched my model, and told me that I needed to simply pull the metal capillary out of the plastic tube…the plastic tube stays is place. I completed installation of new thermostat, and refrigerator seems to be controlling temperature as normal.
