I cut auger at both bends and left flat piece on shaft to act as a washer.
Then used hitemp loktite glue on "washer" and threads, screwed new auger on (reverse threaded).
This fix will require replacement of motor if it ever strips again due to use of loktite but would have been required anyway as this is all the threads left.
Works great now!
