I checked the internet for the issue and found that Bosch dishwashers have a leak detection feature built into the plastic pan under the dishwasher. A float made of styrofoam will rise if water drips into the plastic pan. After the float rises it turns on a switch, which prevents the dishwasher from running, except to drain. The internet also mentioned a common leak problem is caused by a faulty water inlet valve. I noticed the plastic drain pan for my dishwasher had water in it. I also noticed water was dripping from the body of the water inlet valve. I ordered the part from AppliancePartsPros and replaced the water inlet valve when the new part arrived. This new water inlet valve solved the problem and the dishwasher works fine now.
