Noted that the agitator base was freely spinning and not connected to the tub. The agitator base spline was stripped out. I had GREAT DIFFICULTY in removing the agitator. I watched many YouTube videos of how simple it is to separate the two pieces. I could not separate the agitator from the base. I eventually used a hole saw and cut out the top center of the agitator. I could then use a socket wrench and extension with a 7/16 socket to remove the bolt that holds down the agitator base. The replacement then took 5 minutes and the washer cleans now. To separate the agitator from the base required a vice and a pipe wrench. I have no idea why it was so difficult to separate.
