I replaced the heating element supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com. It took me longer than the estimated 30 minutes to an hour cited in the good instructional video. A few things took more time than I had expected:
1. Removing the top of the dryer unit resulted in my breaking off the three plastic tabs that is used to anchor the top to the structure below. In putting it back together, I didn't need those three tabs as the side plastic structure on each side will secure the top to the structure by sliding the top back in place using the plastic side pieces to hold it in place.
2. There are some scratches on my lower arms due to moving that idler pulley towards the center to both remove the belt from the drive wheel as well as re-installing it. I'd advise using a long-sleeved old shirt too protect the skin on your arms.
3. I didn't check to see if the old heater element was electrically intact or not, but the coils had no visible breaks. I'll use my ohmmeter later to see if the old heater element has a normal resistance reading or not.
4. Overall, doing the replacement of the heater element was an interesting job for a senior citizen, and the dryer now produces the proper heat for getting my clothes dry in a reasonable time.
5. I used that opportunity to use my large shop vac on the spiral wire and aluminum foil hose and the riser pipe that leads to the roof vent pipe. I used both the shop vac hose and a 4" brush tied to a flexible cable with 6" sections of 3/4 inch PVC to be able to push up the brush towards the roof-line, pulling down accumulated lint that can clog the venting passageway.
