After researching why the new part didn't fit flush to the dryer, I was able to make it fit flush. I didn't know that a metal fitting from the old knob had to be removed from the timer shaft so the new part would fit flush. Now I am very happy with the purchase and my dryer works again. This fact should be mentioned.
