I ordered a replacement drain pump after inspecting the filter, hose and disposal for clogs. In researching symptoms for the drain problem, I saw that a bad pump will typically make a high pitched whining noise before it goes out completely. This was a good sign to me that the pump was bad. I pulled out the dishwasher from the cabinet, unplugged it then lifted the dishwasher onto a couple of chairs. I placed a bucket underneath and disconnected the old pump and let the water drain into the bucket. After, I placed the dishwasher on its back for easier access to the last crimp clamp holding the pump on and removed the old pump and attached the new pump. Got it back up and plugged in and tested with a partial cycle to verify the water pumped out with no leaks. An overall hassle free and cheap DIY repair.
