I followed the instructions in the very helpful video. In addition, I cleaned the black hook and the stainless steel mating surface behind it with rubbing alcohol before installation because both were filthy, and I also bent the black hooks outwards a little bit on both sides, because they were both much too close to the mating surface and likely just shearing off the friction pad since there was not enough room for the rubber nub of the pad to fit between them (this may also explain why previous replacements by the repair guy only lasted 1-3 weeks at best). I'd estimate that there's about a 3mm gap between them now. I also heated up the friction pads in very hot water to give them a little extra stretch during installation. The hardest part of the job was getting the dishwasher back into just the right spot so I could screw it back in.
