To fix the washing machine I opened the unit to expose the busted suspension spring. It had rusted. The longer suspension spring that connects to the frame also looked rusty. Both springs were replaced with new ones and the unit was reassembled. The only thing that makes this repair difficult is reattaching the new suspension spring. They are very strong and require good leverage to get the spring connected to the bracket. For the best results, attach the spring to the inside bracket, first, and pull toward the outside bracket.
