Prior to ordering a new replacement drum, I went to YOUTUBE and searched for "dryer drum replacement" and found vidoe related to the exact model I had.Watched the video and decided this was too easy to pay $$ for someone else to do. I ordered new dryer drum from APP online and it did take a few weeks to get here because Samsung had it on backorder. When it did come, I was impressed it was OEM from Samsung and of OEM quality and fit.
My 16 y/o son and I tore the dryer down and replaced drum in about 1 hour. I did not tell him I had watched the video and he thought I was really something with only a philips head screw driver. I did not follow the advice of the person in the video to wear protective gloves, and sure as I knew it, I did get a nice cut on one hand from a sharp hidden piece of metal when I reached inside to put the belt back on the motor.
This was a very basic repair, just required some dismantling of the dryer unit. If you have basic confidence and basic repair skills, you can DIY and save $200 or so by ordering from APP and handling the remove / replace yourself.
Can't put a price on what my son learned by the experience. I actually took it apart and had him do all the re-assembly and it was a snap for him. I am sure he'll remember this for a long time and have confidence himself one day to take on little jobs like this.
