Removed and replaced the heating element. I had also purchased the thermal fuse just-in-case but ended up not using it. This repair was not as easy as some suggested here on the site but it wasn't that difficult either. Biggest challenge was the awkward position (kneeling down, reaching inside the dryer) and the fact that some of the wire connections are positioned sideways in a space/location that is simply not as easy to reach as one might have expected. In other other words, this dryer is not a brilliant piece of engineering to begin with. Tip: have a vacuum cleaner handy as you'll find tons of lint everywhere on the chassis and adjacent areas.
