After checking AAP and some other checking online many advised that the coils were the likely culprit. While apart I opted to do the "bearings" and needed to do the retainer too from waiting too long to do the job. 3 of the 4 original bearings were completely gone and some of the housing was worn away.
With my GE all of this was super easy, the housing took the new bearings in no time and snapped the new housing in in under 5 minutes.
Then with a stub Phillips screw driver I didn't even need to take the drum out to do the coils.
I only needed to unscrew the 2 front screws to undo the lid, unhook the lid and that was it!
Super easy and the web site helped A LOT.
