Some internet research yielded the opinion that it was either the control board or the motor control board. The first problem was to get the clothes out before they started to rot and to make it easier to move the washer. Removed the top and front of the washer, reach in and release the front door.
Empty the washer and remove the door to make the front lighter. Remove the front. It is possible to remove the motor control board from the front. An examination of the board evidence of burned components. Ordered a new board. No next day shipping to Maui, but such is the hard life here in paradise. Ordered Thursday, arrived Monday morning. Hard to get it back from the front but was able to turn the washer and easy to install from the back. Managed to the washer back together with no parts left over! Used a couple of woodworking clamps to help with getting the spring loaded wire that holds the rubber gasket back in place. Works just fine. Note, if you can get to the back of the washer, check the board. That way you don't have to remove the front of the washer.
