Replaced the main control board and dishwasher is back to normal.
Over time I noticed that the dishwasher became more and more erratic in its behavior during a normal washing cycle. The water valve would click on and off multiple times during a fill, the washer pump would turn on and then immediately off several times before staying on for a few min and then turning off again. I could hear relays clicking on and off, but the dishwasher was nothing was actually turning on and off. The soap dispenser would also sometimes not open and the green light would not come on after cycle completion. Thankfully the control board is easy to replace and now it is back to normal operation.
