So, I came home from work and my partner informed me that the washing machine was agitating and then suddenly it stopped. So I opened the front face of the washing machine and found the schematic and rang out the switches, determined that the lid check switch had failed but the lid switch was still fine. Ordered the switch and all is well.
The switch came Saturday and I installed the switch in the early evening, closed the lid and the washing machine still didn't work. Early Sunday morning I tackled the issue again, this time I rang the entire circuit from power in, to the timer, pressure switch, and motor. Everything rang out, so I reassemble the washing machine and it WOULD NOT START! So I began opening and closing the door and realized that although the lid switch was fine, it had worn just enough plastic off of the button so that the arm didn't fully depress the switch when the door was closed.
So for the 3rd time, I pulled the switch housing and dabbed about 1/4'' of super glue over the button of the switch so that the arm would make contact with it when the door was closed. Lesson learned, just because the switch rings out, doesn't mean it is functional. Due to my own error, a 15-minute job turned into a day and a half. But I know that the remainder of the circuit and parts are in good shape!
