I identified the problem, looked up the model number and did a web search for the part. Appliance parts pros website was the most helpful to identify the part number. There was also a link to a short video showing the tools needed and a complete replacement procedure. I ordered the part, it came during the timeframe expected and the part was easy to replace - the same exact procedure shown on the video.
I now have a fully serviceable washing machine again.
