Replaced defrost heater element and (for good measure) thermostat. The worst part was that my particular model has drawer slides that are narrower than the coils. All the videos I could find of this repair did not have these drawer slides and the evaporator could be readily rotated up for access to the heater. I had to bend the galvanized metal housing out of the way on the right and rotate the coils clockwise before tilting it up to slide the old heater out and the new one in. Aside from that it was pretty easy. Just to be safe we also replaced the thermostat which can be done by cutting the wires to the old one and using wire nuts to connect the new one. I recommend zip tying the wires to the existing harness to keep them from getting near the fan depending on how much length you leave. Seems be working fine now.
