I searched on line and found a video on AppliancePartsPros which made it clear that replacing the entire unit myself would be an easy task opposed to trying to determine the individual component that needed to be replaced and far less expensive than having it serviced.
After installation the unit was making a clicking noise when ejecting the ice into the collection tray. I called a tech at Appliance... and they suggested I adjust the amount of water coming into the ice maker by slightly turning the appropriate screw on the face of the unit. That eliminated the noise.
