Thanks for the help with the element yesterday. With the schematic, I was able to find the problem. Long story short, after checking voltages and continuity, everything checked out ok up to the new element. I did continuity checks on the terminals on the original and compared those results to the same checks on the new one. They were different. What???? I took the cover plate off of the old one and took a picture (attached). It showed the common hot line connected to the terminal next to the element on the far side of the block. The new one required this connection on the same side and the common pickup point.
