I took the top and front off of the dryer and pulled the drum into the opening where the door would have been and let it sit there (the drive belt was still attached). Then I unscrewed the tray that holds the heating coil. It was still difficult to work on so I unscrewed the connector on top of the tray and pulled the tray out of the dryer.
Once the tray was out, I set it on the counter and laid the coil out around the perimeter of the tray and attached the coil to the insulating brackets according to the instructions that came with the coil.
With the coil in place, I put everything back together in reverse order. Note: the ball on the back of the drum needs to be set into the supporting socket. Lift it high and set it in place.
I did this project by myself but it would have gone faster with someone else there to help with lifting the drum.
