I replaced the icemaker in my Kitchenaid bottom drawer icemaker by removing the door and freezer baskets. Instructions for removing the freezer door and baskets can be found online. A quarter-inch nut driver or a flat-blade screwdriver is all that is needed for this job. Once you reach the icemaker it's easy to remove and reinstall by removing 3 screws and uncliping the wiring harness from the inside of the freezer. The only challenges were crawling into the freezer cavity, and undoing the wiring harness. Two tabs on the top and bottom of the wiring harness must be pressed to unclip it. After that just install
the new icemaker in reverse of removing it. Attach the wiring harness and that's it. Reinstall the baskets and the door, done!
