Replaced the heating element and the fuse. After thinking about it, I probably only needed to replace the heating element, the heat did not stop instantly (probably the fuse) but slowly over a week or two. Anyway, the dryer works perfect again!
The online video was for a Whirlpool dryer, mine is a Maytag. In the video, the back is removed, but on the Maytag the back is welded on. Therefore, I wasted 2 hours removing the top and taking photos of all the wiring - all I really needed to do was remove the bottom panel on the front of the dryer. and everything was right in front of me. A video showing the Maytag dryer would have been very helpful, or some verbiage telling me the Maytag dryer parts are accessible from the front bottom panel.
