We were concerned, to put it mildly.
Our legacy washing machine, over 30 years old, had finally bitten the dust. Didn't spin, didn't agitate. The water filled up, and just sat there, getting old and gross. Now we on the hook for a new washer that we couldn't afford right now. $600-$700, plus installation.
Or were we?
My wife submitted our problem and details to the forums here at appliance parts pro, hoping for a reply within a few days. In less than 2 hrs (at 2 in the morning!), Jake the admin answered our question with a quick diagnosis, and links to parts numbers we could order, schematics, and do-it-yourself videos on how to replace the part.
Unreal.
There were two separate parts that might have been the culprits: the lid switch or the check switch could have gone bad, and each could have been replaced separately. I chose the option of the full assembly board (which included both switches PLUS the inline fuse, which could have also gone bad). Shipped standard and arrived within 4 business days, but they have much faster shipping options if it's any emergency!
I thought I might have to call our "electrician" guru neighbor to come over and help us install, but the video was clear, easy to understand, and made both my wife and I feel we could do it ourselves.
And we did! Unplugged the machine, turned off the water.
Two Phillips head screws opened the top part where the switch assembly was. A pair of needle-nose pliers allowed me to easily remove all the electrical spade connectors (DON'T FORGET TO TAKE PICTURES OR LABEL THE COLORED WIRES BEFORE PULLIN' EM OUT!!!). And a simple socket removed the one bolt that held the piece on there. If I didn't have a socket, a crescent wrench or snub-nosed pliers would have done in a pinch.
Switched it out, plugged it back in, immediately powered up in spin cycle and dumped out all the foul water. Will run bleach and detergent through a few times to make sure all the bacteria are killed, then we're ready to stop supporting our local laundromat once again!
APP was amazing, and gave us all the tools we needed to salvage our old machine, hopefully for many more years to come!. Thanks to Jake and everyone for an excellent customer service experience all the way around!
