How to replace Range Oven Igniter. Oven would get up to temperature and say it was holding, but if you checked 5 minutes later the temperature had dropped. We'd have to hit "cancel" and re-preheat it again (multiple times depending on how long we needed the oven on). Research showed it could be the igniter, the temperature sensor or the gas valve. We replaced the oven igniter. The first time after replacing it, the oven stayed on "lo" (and didn't climb) for seven or eight minutes. We hit cancel and tried again and it has worked fine since then (holds temperature, no need to restart the oven). We DID need to pull the oven out to plug in the igniter in the back (we'd hoped to pull it through and do it inside the oven, but there wasn't enough slack). 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes
