Shawn F Philadelphia , PA December 08, 2015 Refrigerator section of a side by side samsung was not and noise coming from the back By process of elimination I concluded that the condenser was working fine since the freezer seemed to work fine. However, there was a noise coming from the condenser fan motor as well. I first emptied out both the refrigerator and freezer. I first wanted to check the evaporator motor and fan to see if that was the problem. I unplugged the refrigerator. I did not have to take out the ice maker but I did because it was easier to see. I unscrewed the panel in the inside - rear of the freezer. There was ice over some of the wires so I took a hair dryer to unthaw and dry. I then plugged the power chord back in and pressed the button as if the door was closed. The fan and evaporator motor came right on. So I figured the problem was the circuit board located in the outside back of the refrigerator. I unplugged the power and removed the panel in the rear and replaced the board and almost immediately I could feel the cool air coming out of the vents. The board contains the defrost timer and controls that tell the refrigerator when to cool down. The noise was still coming from the lower part of the refrigerator in the back. So from what I read it was an indication that it was going bad or would soon. I unplugged the power chord and removed the screws from the lower panel that ran the width of the base of the rear of the refrigerator rear. I disconnected the cable and harness for the fan motor and unclipped it out of its position (had to angle it out). I removed the fan blade and put on it on the new motor. The fan for the Samsung did not unscrew. you have to pull it off. I put the panel back in place as well as the panel inside the freezer. I put the icemaker back in and then plugged in the power. The result was cold air in the fridge side and no more noise. I saved about $1000 by not needing to purchase a new refrigerator. 26 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours
