Looked online for troubleshooting help. Found AppliancePartsPro.com 45 minute video on how to disassemble the machine to identify the probable cause. Found that the spider-shaft failed, same as have many owners of Samsung front end loading washing machines. Ordered new spider-shaft, six new bolts, oil seal and tub mid-body O-ring gasket as recommended by AppliancePartsPros.com and reassembled per video guidelines. Along the way inspected all hoses and pump suction filter; filter was clogged with aluminum pieces from the failed spider assembly. With the drum removed checked the bearings and the shock absorbers; both components were fine. Reassembled per steps in the second half of the video. After connecting water hoses and plugging-in washing machine, ran a load of clothes... and it operated as a new washer!
