First, I replaced the igniter. This seemed to work but after a couple of weeks the problem started again. I discovered I should have replaced both the igniter and the burner, as the original style burner Whirlpool included has been known to have this issue. The new style has twice as many openings where the gas is released to get to the igniter for lighting. Super easy to replace! I recommend getting both parts (they come together) rather than trying to save money and just get the igniter!
