David M Hillsboro , MO December 08, 2015 Appliance: Model GE MOD# DDE8200PBCHT The "tha thump" noise for each turn of the dryer drum indicated we needed a new drive belt First I watched the video and saw that the dryer front must be removed to make a way to remove the old belt and install the new one. My dryer was just over 40 years old, but I located the hex head sheet metal screws to release the dryer front which were in a different location than what the newer video had shown. After winding the serpentine belt through the idler arm and motor pulley, the belt came off the motor pulley a couple times. I remembered that the video showed the belt needing to be perfectly aligned with the wear marks left by the old belt. I had my front panel and top already reassembled, but not yet plugged back in, so I just turned the drum by hand a few more times until I could tell that the new belt was fully aligned. The project took less than an hour, but I spent an additional hour or so cleaning out some forty years of lint from inside the dryer. Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
