Robert F Stuart , FL May 28, 2017 My whirlpool top loading washer had a problem with the agitator turned freely in cam's did not engage Apparently the problem was created by age all of the cams had turned yellow and the inner cap And cam had become brittle. Upon removal the cap Shattered. The cam itself had fused itself to the inside of the agitator and was very difficult to remove I finally had to break it out by inserting a flat bladed screwdriver through the small square hole in the side and then lifted on the bottom of the cam to break it out as well this took some time. after the cam and dogs Were extricated I cleaned up the agitator and it only took about 5 to 10 minutes to reinstall the parts listed , the inner cap with rubber gasket, and the short cam agitator repair kit parts. Had the parts not deteriorated to the point of breakage this job would have only taken about 20 minutes. The only concern that I have now is that there was no mention as to how tight to make the bolt that holds the agitator on the shaft. Should return freely or be fairly tight I believe freely is the answer but I'm going to research it. Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
