Richard W Fernandina Beach , FL January 09, 2016 Appliance: General Electric Garbage Disposer GFC720F-01 Leaking disposal We have a 3/4 HP GE disposal. It was installed when we built the house approximately ten years ago. It has been fantastic except for one thing. Every six months or so it would start leaking. I would tighten the Support Ring and off we would go for another six months. This time the Sink Flange began to "separate" (break apart at the top). I called my plumber but they said they only work on one brand (it was not GE) so my only option was to buy a new unit from them. That was unacceptable!! I ordered the parts necessary to replace everything from the flange down to the actual disposal. The parts were received as promised and the repair was easily made. Turns out the unit was installed improperly 10 years ago as the gaskets were not properly located! Thomas C Green Bay , WI May 23, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Garbage Disposer GFC1000G01 Mounting ring broke from corrosion My thirty year old GE garbage disposal has been the best appliance I ever had. When the mounting ring broke from corrosion I remove it from the sink and started shopping for a new one. After the price and reviews of new comparable units I thought the GE unit I had looked in great shape. I entered the part numbers I needed and was directed to appliance parts pros found the parts at a great price including a diagram. Parts ordered on Sunday at my door on Wednesday good deal and good service. Read More... 9 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes

Gerald W Bridgeport , WV September 19, 2018 Garbage disposal leaking Replaced cushion mounting ring and gaskets, but the leak was around the sink flange. Took it out, cleaned everything, put in new putty then tightened everything down wobbling the disposal while tightening the collar to squeeze the excess putty out from under the flange. If you just try to squeeze out the putty by tightening the collar you'll probably break the collar or strip the threads on the flange extension under the sink. Just do it slowly, wiggling and then tightening a little until the lip inside the sink gets down flush.
