Christine V Saluda , VA March 28, 2020 Appliance: LG Washer WM3987HW Lg washer/dryer combo unit shook upper counter balance weight loose damaging the mount lugs on the tub cover and tore the tub gasket The upper counter-balance weight mount design is a poor design to begin with. It started to rattle loose approximately 5yrs into the 8yrs that we've owned it. As it would start to loosen up (as evidenced by the loud banging noise exhibited during operation); I'd shut it down, pull the top off, remove the weight (it was almost always half rattled off at this point), wrap the mount lugs with friction tape (the plastic lugs were being worn down/chaffed by the balance weight), put the weight back on and run the screws into the expanding lugs to secure it. After about a year of these repairs I had to get bigger screws to expand the lugs fully. I had been milking it along over the last three years by this method until it finally just broke off the mount lugs and tore though the tub gasket (boot). Repair is actually not too bad as long as you have the expander pliers to remove the inner and outer door gasket clamps. It's all pretty self-explanatory for anyone with even a little mechanical aptitude. The hardest part is getting the tub springs on and off, helps to have a second set of hands to support the tub (hold the tub up) while the springs are removed/installed. Other than that it's a fairly straight forward procedure. I replaced the outer portion of the tub and the tub gasket. To be fair to LG we really like the unit and we wash a ton of clothes in this thing (household of 9), overall it's been a great - like anything it has had its share of issues, mostly R & R of a part this issue was the only nagging problem that I've had to deal with (well, the tub drain pump motors are a pain but that's another story for another time). Thanks to Appliance Parts Pros for having the parts in stock and shipping them so quickly. Without you all, I'd be buying another $2600 unit! Michael Z Indianapolis , IN October 18, 2014 Appliance: LG Washer WM2032HW Wahser made a loud noise in spin cycle I suspected the tub gears where ready to break so I dismantled my LG WM2032HW front load washer. I found the spyder gear corroded and broken. I also found that the stainless steel drum abraded the front tub cover so bad, it was cracked. My washer is an early model and always had standing water in the door seal after a wash. What I learned is LG stopped making the orginal front tub cover and replaced it with one that had a drain hole at the bottom front edge. I also learned that this new front cover would only work with a new door seal that had a drain hole at the bottom. I had to buy a new hose that connected the door seal drain with the drain hole in the front tub cover. All in all, the repairt was somewhat easy. I replaced the tub bearings, tub seal, front tub cover, spyder gear, and the door seal. Washer working fine. Robert V Las Vegas , NV January 03, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2277HW Loud banging and imbalance during spin cycle My problem was a broken spider. I followed your excellent video, but have some additional input that should be incorporated in a new video showing the required upgrade procedures and parts required to repair an early model with damaged front tub half using currently available parts. Don't expect everything to go as easy as the video. 1) Used 4lb. brass hammer to drive shaft from bearings. 2) Torqued spider bolts to 20ft lbs. with thread locking compound. 3) attached rubber seal to front tub cover before attaching the balance weights. Do like the video says and use vise-grips. 4) The new required heating element has the thermistor mounted to it with nonmatching electrical connectors. Had to make a pigtail from the old thermistor wiring harness by attaching two small female blade connectors with crimp fittings. Excellent parts supplier to deal with. Received 12 parts from three different states in four days just before Christmas by FedEx for $7. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Huges R Alvin , TX March 05, 2016 Appliance: Model WM2501HVA Smoking noisy Replace spider, bearings, seal and tub cover. I also install new door boot while it was apart Helpful hint. Save the old bearing and you can use them to knock in the new ones evenly. Also if you don't want to buy the tool for the boot retainer you can use two 4ft pieces of 1/8 rope U-shaped through eye holes of door boot spring and with a helper holding one side you pulling on the other side you can easily install the door boot springs (Retainers). It will save you money , your knuckles and time. And also get the parts from appliancepartspros.com. Great people to deal with and best price and fast shipping. Read More...
