Replaced it:
Loosened and lifted the wig wag solenoid
used a drill with grindstone and ground off the rivet head, swapped the new part in... BUT... the kit didnt contain the rivet clip so I had to hit the hardware store for a pushnut that fit, hopefully it will stay on.

Our Kenmore Series 70 washer no longer spun during the rinse and spin cycle. After scouring the resource on the internet, the lid switch checked out OK, so it boiled down to the wig wag solenoid unit that engages the transmission. The back panel was opened and a check with a multimeter showed one of the solenoids was an open circuit and provided no resistance reading.
Removal of the old unit required some finessing with a prying tool and hammer to force it off of the shaft. The new unit...
