Harry, Based on the model number it would likely be a 1/4" nut driver if someone has not changed them.

Nick, You will want to test the defrost thermostat 5303918638 for continuity and test the defrost heater for a resistance of between 11 and 25 ohms. The thermostat should read continuity with it being below 15 degrees. If both are good then the control box 5304507171 would need to be replaced.

Hello John, This is most likely caused by a stopped up defrost drain. You will need to remove the control box and heat the drain with a clothes steamer. If you don't have a clothes steamer you can use a hairdryer if you do not use it on a setting higher than medium, to prevent damage to the refrigerator liner. This will take about twice as long but it will work.

Peter, with the refrigerator power cord unplugged, there will be an indention on the bottom of the control housing that will have a 1/4" hex head screw inside. This screw will need to be removed so that the front can move down to allow the wire harness to disconnect from the top of the refrigerator section. This will allow the control panel to be moved forward.

Brian, We can't tell from the photos and there's no info on either board so possibly the thermistor used or the control board that is in the assembly. We can only recommend that you use the part that the manufacturer suggests for proper function.

Randal, the first thing that you will want to check is the defrost heater, bi-metal, and thermistor. The defrost heater should test at 35 ohms, the defrost bi-metal should have continuity in temperatures less than 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and the defrost thermistor will vary in resistance based on its temperature. If the thermistor reads 19.37 kOhms, then it is sensing 47 degrees, 24.53 kOhms for 37 degrees, and 31.33 kOhms for 27 degrees. Once it has been verified that the heater and bi-metal are testing good, and that the thermistor is reading colder than 47 degrees, then the control would be the next step.
