This defrost heater mounts at the evaporator and melts frost during the automatic defrost cycle. Replacing a failed heater restores airflow, helps prevent ice buildup, and brings cooling performance and temperature stability back to your refrigerator. What it does:

  • Heats the evaporator coil during defrost to clear frost and ice
  • Keeps air passages open to maintain even cooling between compartments
  • Common failure signs: thick frost on the rear freezer panel or iced-over evaporator
  • Resulting symptoms may include poor cooling, a warm fresh food section, or fan noise from ice contact
What's included:
  • 1 defrost heater
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; let heavy ice thaw and never use sharp tools on coils or liners
  • Remove the freezer's rear panel to access the heater; note wire routing and clip positions
  • Transfer any existing brackets/clips and secure the heater in the original location, clear of plastic parts and the drain trough
  • Check heater and defrost thermostat continuity before reassembly; ensure all connectors are fully seated

Jim for Model Number MRT18FNEW2

Water is dripping from the corners of the lower part of the seal on the freezer door, at the handle end and at the hinge end. The drip is where to seal joins the door, not on the freezer side of the seal (cabinet). The icemaker stopped working 3 days ago. Also, items put in the freezer then did not freeze and frozen goods began to thaw. The drip was noticed yesterday afternoon. I checked the water supply valve and the mesh filter is clear. The freezer is on top with the refrigerator below it. The refrigerator is working fine. I tested the freezer door seal with a sheet of paper and the seal is good against the cabinet. Any ideas on the problem?

Jim, are you sure the freezer door was closed completely ? could be that there was something blocked and keeping the door slightly open ? Did you notice any heavy frost or ice on the back wall of the freezer or the freezer floor, You could have a clogged defrost drain system, but you should have other cooling complaints, you didn't mention. Thanks

Todd for Model Number Frigidaire Model # FRS26ZRFW3 side x side

A few months ago i noticed the refrigerator side was not cooling, the temp. was up to 65 .. the freezer however was frozen and fan was running. I removed everything and unplugged and let it completely thaw as there was a substantial amount of ice build-up on coils in back of freezer. After that the refrigerator started cooling properly. NOW a few months later the same thing and the coils etc. behind panel on freezer side are all froze up again. I was told a common problem is this DEFROST HEATER not working, is that a correct assumption? Thanks for any help
