The Front Felt Glide Assembly is an OEM part for Frigidaire dryers. This part allows smooth operation of the dryer drum, providing a felt pad that the drum glides on as it rotates. This not only helps to support the drum but also minimizes friction and noise, contributing to the efficient and quiet operation of the dryer.

Over time, the felt portion of the glide assembly can wear down, leading to increased friction between the drum and the dryer's front panel.

Symptoms of a bad Front Felt Glide Assembly include:

  • Unusual noises during operation, such as squeaking or grinding
  • The dryer drum may catch or hesitate during rotation
  • Increased wear and tear on clothing due to the drum's rough movement
  • The dryer may take longer to dry clothes efficiently due to the drum's impaired rotation

This OEM Frigidaire part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator and some Kenmore models.

Rhys, It is odd that the felt seal melted but sounds likely that there may be an issue with the the drum not being fully seated into the bearing causing it to rub harder.

Hello Buck, This could be a warp in the drum or a front or rear bearing issue. For a more detailed diagnosis, we would need you to please post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can look at the exact configuration of the model you have in your home and recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Kay. As long as the gap is not large, it should be fine. Usually they are about 1/8" apart on both sides.

I have a Frigidaire gas dryer. nine months ago I replaced the upper and lower felt seal the upper seal has three plastic guides my first question is how long should I expect those guides to last? And my second question is i've been running the dryer with no heat for several months because I did not have the time to take it apart and realize that I had a bad igniter when I took it apart I noticed that the new felt gaskets have rust on them .is this a result of putting wet clothes in there and not achieving the proper temperature to have all of the moisture evaporate? Also where the drum comes in contact with the gasket all of the paint has been rubbed off it is now exposed metal is that also an issue ? Thank you

1 Answer

Hello Michael. As far as lasting, it depends on load size and use. There is no way to estimate that. The rust stains are from no heat it sounds like. It is common for the paint to rub away from the metal where it touches the felt.

Don, The paint being chipped off will not hurt the function of the unit and unfortunately we do not have a paint that would be recommended for using on this.

Hello Cball, Since the weight of the drum rides on the top felt, it is thicker to make up for the compression caused by normal operation. There is no problem with the differences in thicknesses of these two felt seals.
