Hello Anne. Pulling up on the handle is the way it is supposed to go on but you may have to try to pull down on it if the installer put them on upside down. When pulling you do have to use force to pull them up or down to release.

Tonya, you will need to remove the door handles in order to tighten the retainer bolts on the door panel. You will need to push up on the handle, sometimes you need a rubber mallet or hit the bottom of the handle with the ball of your fist to push it up above the retainer clip inside the handle. It only takes a 1/2 to 3/4 inch move up. Just be careful, not to scratch or dent the panel around the handle. tighten the mounting bolts, and reverse the procedure.

Hello Barbara, There is a set screw in the side of the handle that holds the screw in the handle. It will need to be loosened to allow for removal of the handle mounting screw.
