For Frigidaire Freezer Defrost Heater (Part Number: OEM6341313)

Hi Ned. Check the defrost timer connections to see if there is a shorted wire grounding out onto the chassis or the bracket mount. Open the freezer back wall and make sure the defrost thermostat part # 297216600 is closed (0-ohms) under normal temperatures. Make sure the heater part # 216730700 leads are not grounded out as well. Repair all terminal leads if necessary. The heater should have resistance and not open (o-ohms). From what you described the Defrost timer part # 5304518034 may have internally shorted terminals. Thank You.

Hello Roy. The problem you are describing has nothing to do with the compressor but is a defrost issue. There is only a few components in this circuit: the defrost timer, the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, and the wiring harness. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html The defrost timer 5304518034 is mounted behind the kick panel and has a knob that allows you to advance it into defrost. This is the first test. Advance the timer into defrost,(you will know it's there when the fan and compressor kicks off). It should advance itself out of defrost in 30 minutes or less. If this happens, the defrost timer is probably good. Now the next test you need to open the freezer back wall,(after unplugging the unit to prevent electrical shock), and ohm out the heater 216730700 and the defrost thermostat 297216600. Whichever part you find bad will correct the situation and it will once again be a self-defrosting unit. Have a great day!
