I ordered a new switch per switch diagram and checked its compatibility 5054073-048 / 318191027 has 6 contact points on backside. The original is 5055073-048 / 318191023 has 8 contact points. All contact points are connected on old switch. The contact points missing on new switch are labeled S1 & S2... Please advise where I would connect those two wires too on NEW switch? Better yet getting the correct switch would be preferred. Thank you for your consideration. Marc Spitz

Charlie for Model Number AP3970651 (903097-9010) SWITCH,INFINITE,DUAL

The problem first appeared in this switch. The control panel would not come on without this switch being on and then would not operate properly. Inspecting the switch showed contacts obviously bad on the side of the switch. The switch was replaced and the same panel problem was still there. The panel was then replaced and works fine now but still only when the switch is on. Power is removed from the unit until problem is identified to protect the new panel and switch. I'm guessing burner or wiring but don't want to tear into that without some more knowledgeable advise. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Charlie, This sounds like a wiring issue. I believe the issue will either originate at the terminal block or at the molex connector that supplies L2 to the surface units. When the one switch is turned on, it allows L2 to be supplied through that switch. This is not a good situation since it will burn that switch out from excessive current flow if more than one surface unit is used with this situation present. In studying the wiring from a similar unit, the Red#1 wire is the wire that is not passing the voltage to all of the surface elements as it should. The first thing I would look at is the whitish colored molex connector supplying power to the surface of the appliance. Look for a tannish or darker color inside this connector that would indicate a poor, lost, or burned connection. Please let us know what you find and if further assistance is required, please provide the model number from the units' I.D. tag so we can work on the same page with you.

Hello Ralph, The switch does not come with instructions. All you have to do is remove the back panel after unplugging the unit and remove the knob. Under the knob, you will find two screws. Removing these two screws will let the switch hang by the wires. Remove the first wire and look at how that terminal was labeled and make sure the wire is placed on the terminal on the new switch labeled the same way. Do this with each wire until all of the wires have been transferred. Re-install the mounting screws and double check that no wires are touching anything but the terminals. Re-install the rear control panel cover and plug the unit back into the power supply. Slide it back in and your ready to test it out.

Hello Ralph. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like either the element is shorted, or the switch needs to be replaced in the unit.

Hi AG. It really needs to be diagnosed to see if you have 240 vac coming out of the switch, and if so will it regulate properly proportionally as you use the switch. It is sometimes easy to physically tell if the contacts have welded shut. You will see a large black burned out area on the switch. This part # is 318191023. The inside "ribbon" of the burner element will physically open and not complete the electrical path or ohm out with an ohmmeter. These are a couple of visual checks to confirm if you do not have a volt/ohm meter. Burner part # is 318198925. Thank You.
