The Belt Drive is an OEM replacement part for GE dryers. It is responsible for transferring power from the motor to the drum. A bad belt drive can be caused by normal wear and tear over time, as well as excessive load or strain on the dryer drum. 

Symptoms of a bad belt drive include:

  • The dryer drum not spinning or rotating.
  • Unusual noises coming from the dryer during operation.
  • The drum not tumbling smoothly or consistently.
  • The belt appearing frayed, cracked, or broken.

Causes of a faulty Belt Drive can include normal wear and tear over time, excessive tension or stretching, or physical damage from improper installation or foreign objects.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Wayne, Try to open the door and tape off the door switch, then push the start button and rotate the drum while pushing and see if it will continue to rotate. If it does then it is a bad start winding on the motor and motor will need changed.

Hello Wilfredo. You will need to check and make sure your routing the belt properly around the pulleys and that the idler spring arm WE03X20434 is in the correct location on the motor plate to apply pressure to the belt..

Henry, Yes, there is a minor amount of "stretching" on the dryer belt(s) depending on age and usage. The idler pulley and tension spring will usually compensate for the 1/2 to 3/4 inch change in the length. Replace the belt and you'll be fine,
