John August 02, 2012 for Model Number jnm1731dm1bb How do I remove this part - the grill, in order for me to change out the control panel. There was no screw on it. Tried to pry it open with the flat screw driver, but was afraid to break it. Spent an hour and couldn't get any progress. Please tell me exactly how to remove this thing step by step. Thank you so much! John
1 Answer Hello John, The screws that hold the air grille on are on the top of the unit. It isn't obvious that they hold the grille on, but when the two screws are removed, the grille will slide to the left and unhook from the microwave front. This exposes the single screw at the center top of the control panel which holds the control panel on. Be absolutely sure the unit is unplugged before accessing the back of the control area to avoid an electrical shock. The control panel, when bumped straight up, will come off. Be careful of the wiring on the back of this assembly. Be aware also, if you cannot see the two screws along the top of the unit, the cabinet could be made in a fashion that the unit will actually have to be dropped in order to access the screws.
