The Igniter Glow Bar is an OEM part for GE gas ovens and ranges. It is responsible for igniting the gas by heating up to a high temperature, which then lights the gas burner to start the cooking process.

You should replace the igniter glow bar if it becomes faulty or fails to ignite the gas. Common causes of a bad igniter glow bar include wear and tear from frequent use, electrical issues, or physical damage to the igniter element.

Symptoms of a bad igniter glow bar include:

  • The oven not heating up
  • The gas burners not igniting
  • A clicking sound without ignition
  • Visible cracks or damage to the igniter

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Igniter Glow Bar (Part Number: OEM16935708)

Ragan for Model Number CGS990SET5SS

I had a broken ignitor glow bar. I replaced it with an OEM GE glow bar. When I tested the new install the glow bar activated and glowed red/orange then broke. The bar broke and fell to the bottom of the pan. It was active for a approx. 25-30 seconds before failure. It did not trigger the gas valve. I have another replacement part on the way. I am concerned I may have another issue though. Could this have been a faulty new part or do I have other issues with amperage?

1 Answer

Ragan, This issue will most likely be a faulty part. You will want to check to make sure that when installing you do not hit it against anything because they are very fragile and can crack leading to breakage.

Robert, With the unit shutting down completely then this would most likely be a issue with the control board. It is also possible that the fan is not coming on to cool the unit and could cause the control board to overheat and shut down. Would check to make sure that the fan is coming on and if it is not then test for 120 vac to the fan. If there is power then replace the fan. If the fan is not coming on and there is no power or the fan is coming on and the control is shutting down then the control board would be the issue.
