This keypad is the membrane switch mounted behind the dishwasher's control panel. It registers your button selections and sends them to the electronic control, helping restore consistent response when keys are unresponsive, intermittent, or require excessive pressure. What it does:

  • Registers cycle, option, and Start/Reset inputs on the console
  • Sends those selections to the electronic control for proper operation
  • Failure symptoms include: some or all buttons not responding, needing to press very hard, erratic input, or the cycle not starting from the console
  • Can also present as stuck/continuous key input or random beeping
What's included:
  • 1 keypad
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; the control console contains live voltage
  • Open the door and remove inner-door screws to access the control console
  • Note ribbon-cable orientation; insert straight and fully into the board connector without creasing the flex
  • Handle electronics with dry hands and ESD care; reassemble without overtightening screws

Fred, You're on target, you'll need to replace the WD34X11228 Keypad Assembly. One or more of the keypad (most likely the cancel key) circuits is sending a signal to the control board, causing the cycle to cancel.

George, Make sure that you have a firm connection on the ribbon harness to the control board. If it checks ok then the issue would most likely be a faulty control board.

Scott, You will want to access the control board by removing the inner door panel. Once inner door panel is removed you would peel off the existing keypad making sure that you get all of the glue off. Once this is done disconnect the ribbon harness from the control board and plug in new harness. Peel paper from the back of the new keypad and adhere to the control panel.

Hello Robert, The only way to test these is fairly in-accurate. That is why GE will give you both part numbers if you call them. I would try the suggested method since it works one in five times. Turn the power to the unit off and remove the control panel. Unplug the ribbon cable from the control board. Close the unit back up and turn the breaker back on. As per GE, if the fault code doesn't come back up in 24 hours, replace the control panel. If the code comes up with the control panel dis-connected, replace the control board.

Hello Lee. Try removing the ribbon cable and cleaning the contacts to make sure there is no moisture inside the door. You can test the keypad and see if the buttons are responding. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Hope this helps.
