Symptoms of a faulty solenoid valve kit:

Raymond for Model Number pss26mswc ss

Our ice maker has not dispensed either cubed or crushed ice in some time. Maker still produces ice, the motor still operates but the flap does not allow ice to dispense. The auger turns, just nothing comes out. When I tested it with the door switch depressed and door switch open, the motor turns and I get a snapping sound which appears to be the solenoid. It jumps but does not stay up. I am guessing that this is the problem. Please advise if the solenoid should pop up and hold the wire actuator dispenser up until done with dispensing.

Raymond, based on the information provided, the solenoid WR62X10055 would more than likely have a bad winding. However, you may want to inspect the door recess crank WR17X10706 for any possible broken pieces as well as the mounting for these parts on the door WR78X11977. The solenoid should hold the door chute open until dispensing has completed and it should be energized the entire time of dispensing.

The control lever on the water/ice dispenser dispenses water and ice cubes but does not work on the crushed ice setting. I tried removing the ice bucket assembly from the refrigerator, emptying the ice into a container and placing it back in the freezer. I rinsed the the bucket with warm water all around the dispensing end and allowed the bucket to dry. After the bucket dried I placed the ice back in it and installed it back in the refrigerator. That didn't fix the issue, Do I need to replace a part?

1 Answer

Joe, At the back of the freezer next to the auger there is a solenoid for the crush/cube, check to make sure that the solenoid is not stuck in the up position and if it is then try to pop it down. If it will not come down then it sounds like it would be faulty and need replaced.

Ryan, It is odd that this would occur but the only thing that would possibly cause this would be long periods of dispensing ice. It would cause the solenoid to over heat and swell. The other possibility would be if the solenoid is getting too much voltage to it so would recommend testing the voltage to the solenoid to make sure that it is good.

When my ice dispenser dispenses cubed ice there is a very loud grinding noise. It will dispense the cubed ice so I know the solenoid works to move the arm, but it is very loud and annoying. When it dispenses crushed ice, it is very quiet like it normally was. This all started after I had to use a hair dryer to defrost the freezer due to excessive frost build-up (I just replaced the water valves in hope of fixing the frost issue) Can you tell which which part I might need to replace for the ice dispenser issue? Thanks

1 Answer

Doug, You'd have to suspect the WR57X33326 / WR57X10032 Water Inlet Valve. If you have to turn the water off at the supply, the ice maker portion of the fill valve is "stuck" open and allowing a continuous flow of water through the system.

Karen for Model Number 10653522300

Hi, When I purchased my condo I got the frig with it. It will only dispense crushed ice, not cubed. After inspecting behind the ice bin, there is no ice dispensing solenoid even there, only the motor. I have tried to find the ice dispensing solenoid part for my model# Kenmore Coldspot 1065352300 with no luck. Every solenoid says it isn't compatable. The diagram for this area doesn't even show a solenoid, only a plug. Should this model have an ice dispensing solenoid? If so, what is the part #. This frig is a very basic model. If no solenoid is available on this model, how does it switch from crushed to cubed?

1 Answer

Karen, Based on the model number of the unit and looking at a the parts list, this unit would not have a crush feature. You will want to make sure that the ice that is in the bin is not getting clumped together as this would be the only reason for crushed ice to come out. The ice bin does not have crushed ice unless someone put a bin in that has a crusher in it and then there would be no way to install a cube solenoid.

Ginny, The most likely issue would be a problem in the water inlet valve WR57X33326 allowing water to slowly fill the water tube and drip into the ice maker mold, and overfill and drip down the faceplate and freeze. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,
