For Ge Kit Srv Solenoid Cube (Part Number: OEM17875650)

Michael M for Model Number GSL25JFXB LB

Hello, I am having the common problem with only getting crushed ice, regardless of the setting. Less than a year ago, I purchased a new solenoid from your company and it worked perfectly. About two months ago, I started having the same problem. I looked at the solenoid again and it seems that the inside of the solenoid has little raised areas preventing the arm to fit inside the solenoid. Does that make any sense? Do these solenoids only last less than a year? Thank you for your time.

Michael, For this issue the solenoid would need to be replaced. In most cases such as this it will be caused by the dispenser being pushed for too long at times to get ice. This can cause the solenoid to overheat.

RussF, The first thing to check would be the wiring at the door hinge. If this is ok then the issue will be a faulty dispenser control board.

Carl for Model Number 61004881 solenoid not getting power ice GC2228GEH3

My solenoid is not activating, so I bought a new one and same thing. So I only have crushed ice. Normal ice setting is supposed to activate the solenoid and move the lever so it doesn't crush the ice, but two solenoid and they don't move at all and I feel no magnetic pull. The solenoid is somehow not getting electricity, but the door switch, light, augur motor, everything on that wire harness all works fine other than the solenoid. What is the easy fix? Right now I just duct taped the lever so I always get cubes instead of always crushed, but would like a solution if cheap and easy to do. Thanks

Hello Carl. It sounds like the board is bad. The part needed 61005834 has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.

Dana for Model Number GSS25QSTASS

Since day one when dispensing cube ice the crushed/cubed ice solenoid WR62X23154 will engage and then drop out momentarily then re engage and drop out again over and over till you stop dispensing cube ice. I have always assumed it was normal, but very annoying and loud. I replaced the crushed/cubed ice solenoid a few years ago thinking that perhaps it was defective but the sound/operation did not change. Is this normal operation for the crushed/cubed ice solenoid? if it is not normal what could be causing the issue? Thanks

William B for Model Number GSS20GEWGWW

I'm having trouble with my GE side by side refrigerator/freezer. I have had to replace 3 solenoid's part dit seems like they overheat and the plastic inside the solenoids melt and the pin will no longer move up and down, one time it even exploded and damaged the main control board and I had to replace that. My freezer seems to go on the defrost cycle to long, My ice cubes start melting and then they refreeze clumped together. No problems with temperature on the refrigerator side. Do you have any ideas what else might be causing my problems?

1 Answer

William, In regards to the solenoid overheating, if the dispenser is not ejecting ice properly and it is being held down for too long then this would be a cause for the solenoid to fail. Also would want to check to make sure that the solenoid is not getting power to it when the dispenser is not in use. If this is occurring then this would most likely be a issue with wiring in the unit. The unit staying in defrost too long would most likely be caused by a faulty thermistor on the evaporator which is part number WR55X10025.

Hello Mike. it sounds like your hearing the solenoid WR62X107 for the dispenser. It should run for a few seconds to allow the ice to drop into the glass.

Hello Bill, You will need to open the dispenser cover and inspect the linkages for damage. While in there, verify voltage to the dispense switch WR23X10783. If none, check the harness at the freezer door hinge for loose connections.

Bruce, There is a slide arm on the icemaker that tells the icemaker when it is full. Once enough ice is dispensed then it will allow the icemaker to start cycling again.
