Steve, Remove power and enter back of the unit to test the infinite switch. You should read continuity across l1 and p with the switch turned on. If the test fails, replace the switch.

James, This issue would be caused by a faulty infinite switch. You will want to check to see which switch is sending power to the light and replace switch if needed.

James, Not likely an indicator light problem. In which case you would need to check the sensor circuit on the burner element(s), at room temperature the circuit across the S and 2 terminals should be "open" when the element cooktop area reaches approx. 250 dgrs.F. the circuit will "close" and the hot surface indicator light will illuminate. You'll need to determine which sensor circuit is remaining "closed" or is intermittently operating after the cooktop has cooled down.

Richard, The hot surface indicator light comes on when the limiter of the element starts getting hot. If the light stays on then the limiter would be faulty which would require the element to be replaced.

Hello Anthony. You will need to test the switches and see which one is sending power to the light. Once you determine which one is sending the power, you will neeed to test the temperature probe on the element and see if it is shorted. If so, you will need to replace the element. If the element is good, you will need to replace the switch. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
