This GE Oven Safety Valve is an OEM replacement part for GE ranges. The part's primary function is to prevent gas from releasing until the igniter has received enough voltage to ignite it safely. Not allowing any gas to exit before ignition helps avoid potential safety hazards from uncombusted gas.

Causes for failure could include wear and corrosion over many years of use. Repeated heating and cooling stresses may cause cracking or breaking in the valve's delicate regulating components. Mineral deposits or dirt buildup may also obstruct proper opening and closing.

Symptoms of a faulty safety valve would include:

  • gas releasing or leaking even when the igniter is not lit
  • the oven or burners not lighting at all when the valve is engaged

This GE OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA and select Kenmore models.

Frank T for Model Number JGS968SEK2SS

Couple Years ago convection went out on my ge, but the oven still worked fine for years after that the Ignitor went so replaced it then it would stick at 100 degrees and not rise. I would smell gas, so thought bad Ignitor so replaced again . Nothing changed ignitor tested fine and heated up, but no change in yemp .The only way the rail will ignite is by 1 opening door to cause a back draft and make gas flow or use a candle lighter after waiting wit 2 minutes for gas to flow. .. what Should I be looking to Replace next.

Frank T, Thank you for the question. Based on the model and the information you have provided. The oven gas valve is likely the cause. WB21T10014

Brian, To convert this safety valve to LP you would tighten it down 1 1/2 to 2 turns and reverse that if you are going from LP to Natural.

Mike, This issue would most likely be with the oven safety valve not working properly.

Hello, I just swapped the igniter in mu GE oven (0546A713471DNAT) and now the oven ignites, but it would not turn off anymore when I turn the knob to the off position. The flame goes to super low, and stays at that until I turn the gas off at the shutoff valve. Should I get a new the safety valve (Y-30128-77)? I can, I just don't understand why would that go bad just now? I barely touched it to run the igniter wire behind it... Thank you! Mark

Emma for Model Number JGBP30BEA

I use my oven usually only 3 times a week. For the past many of weeks, I noticed a smell when I opened the oven door to arrange racks, etc in preparation of turning on the oven. At this point, the oven will have been off for at least a day and often for several days. I guess my sense of smell is not that good, because it just smelled stale to me. A few days ago I mentioned this to my husband and he said that the smell is actually gas. (A few other family members I asked agreed with him.) We smell nothing around the outside of the range or by the stovetop, just when we open the oven door. I did not use the stove top or oven the last couple of days, and last nite when I opened the oven door, I discovered the smell to be gone. Could a faulty oven gas safety valve be the cause of this gas odor or would it not be the cause because if it were the smell would not go away over time? If the gas safety valve is not at fault, would you know what the cause is? Thank you

Emma, Though it's usually an occasional occurrence, Yes the WB19K14 Oven Safety Valve, could have a defect and produce a small or intermittent gas leak from the valve. There is a possible in the gas pressure and the WB19K10001 Pressure Regulator, If the pressure in the supply line increases past 6 or 7 WCI, the internal "vent" (the blue cap) will open and release the excess gas pressure, but this occurs even less than a "sticky", leaking oven safety valve.
