Joe Ramirez February 25, 2018 for Model Number 362-72286890 How can I test my oven safety valve? Thanks
1 Answer Joe, You will want to check at the oven safety valve to see if there is 3.2 to 3.6 vac and if there is proper power then the valve will be faulty and need to be replaced. Read More...
Joe October 26, 2017 for Model Number JGBS23BEA2WH Was on parts site looking at oven safety valve # WB19K31 It was listed for natural gas and I have propane. When I asked they said contact GE. They told me it should work. Ordered and installed part. Now I have big flames coming out of burner tube. I saw similar question about adjusting orifice two turns from tightened all the way down. The orifice on the old valve came out tightened all the way down. Your thoughts Please.
1 Answer Joe, Yes, this is an "adjustable" orifice gas valve. You will need a 1/2" open end wrench, turn the orifice down / clockwise 2 1/2 to 3 revolutions. It has been found that in some cases turning the orifice hood all the way down can damage the LP pin inside the valve, or distort it and can create ignition and noise issues. Don't forget to turn the oven on and let the burner cycle for a minute or two, then adjust the air shutter on the burner tube until you have a nice colored blue flame with little or no yellow tipping of the flame. Stan April 06, 2017 for Model Number RGB530DEP1WW I installed a new igniter and it glows strong and hot enough to light a match held in close proximity to it. When the igniter starts glowing I can hear the safety valve click and hear hiss of gas being released, but no ignition even after 3 minutes. I can use a match to manually light the hissing burner tube, and the oven will remain lit and bake fine (with the igniter glowing of course). Is there not enough gas flowing to be ignited by the igniter? Would this be a safety valve problem? Is the gas volume adjustable?
1 Answer Hello Stan, If the ignitor is glowing yellow to white hot it will pull enough current to open the gas valve. This temperature is hot enough to ignite the gas. If not, the burner WB16K10065 will need to be replaced. Read More...
Jeff M August 04, 2016 for Model Number JGBS20BEA1WH I can turn on the oven and see the igniter glow bright but it never releases the gas to ignite.Would this be the safety valve or thermostat?
1 Answer Jeff, You will want to Test for 3.2-3.6 vac at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Kurt Z. June 13, 2016 for Model Number 1940's or 50's wedgewood oven I need to replace the oven gas safety valve. Both the gas inlet and out let are on one side with a red push in button on the end. The other end has the thermal coupling. Gas fittings look like 3/8 inch female. Can I get a replacement?
1 Answer Hello Kurt, You can post a new question with the model number from the units' I.D. tag and we will try to obtain the correct part number to fit and operate properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Read More...
Cathi April 24, 2016 for Model Number JGBS23BEA2WH We just had our GE stove/oven converted from propane to natural gas and now we can smell gas when the stove and oven are off. All the orifices and connections have been checked and rechecked and there are no leaks. The smell seems to be coming from the oven. Our suspicions now turn to the oven safety switch/valve malfunctioning and allowing a small amount of gas to seep by. Would this be a logical assumption at this point or might the problem more likely lie elsewhere? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Cathi, It is possible for the safety valve to have an issue. Be aware the pressure regulator WB19K10001 should have been converted to natural gas also. This could have caused a leak at the brass nut. Read More...
Lana Rae February 09, 2016 for Model Number GE gas wall oven JGKS15GEH1 I'm trying to find a safety valve for a 1990 GE gas wall oven model #JGKS15GEH1 / Serial #GA504523J. I know this oven is old but it was working great and I really want to keep it. If you don't have the part, any suggestions where I might search? Many, many thanks...
1 Answer Lana Rae, The part number for the oven safety valve that will work for your unit is 5303208070. Read More...
1 Answer NRA, You will need to replace the orifices for your top burners with the natural gas orifices part number WB28K10022. For the oven you would loosen the orifices 1 1/2 to 2 turns and close the air shutter on the burner off to about a 1/4 way open. Flip the cap on the regulator from LP to Nat. Read More...
Kerry July 16, 2015 for Model Number JGBS07DEM1BB My oven is emitting gas and has been turning on by itself then shutting off within the minute. It is slightly warm afterwards. Is it the control panel, thermostat or safety valve? When it is in use it is functioning properly.
1 Answer Hello Kerry. It sounds like the thermostat WB20K8 is bad and will need to be replaced. If it is turning on and off, the thermostat would do that. Read More...
Willem May 14, 2015 for Model Number PGS908SEM3SS While replacing the oven igniter, I short circuited the oven a few times. The igniter now works but when I connect it it stays on all the time. I bought a new controller from you but wonder if I also need a new gas valve?
1 Answer Hello Willem. It sounds like the only part you will need is the controller you ordered. The gas valve should be fine. Read More...
