The Overload PTCR Combo is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is designed to protect the compressor from electrical overload, ensuring reliable performance and extending the life of the appliance. This part combines the functions of a positive temperature coefficient resistor (PTCR) and an overload relay.

Causes of a bad overload PTCR combo can include electrical surges, wear and tear over time, or internal component failure. A malfunctioning overload PTCR can lead to compressor issues and inefficient cooling.

Symptoms of a bad overload PTCR combo include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or frequently cycling on and off
  • Unusual clicking noises from the compressor area
  • The refrigerator running continuously without cooling effectively

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Yuan, Thank you for your question. The model number listed is not coming up as a valid model. In most cases when a start device fails you would want to replace the relay and overload if they are separate parts. In some cases, the start device will be all in one.

Jerry, The wiring is different between the 2 as you have a plug-in type and you would need to cut and splice the connectors on the WR07X10131 if you use that one. Specs-wise it should work.

Julian for Model Number GSH25JSXBSS

What is correct wiring for my model GSH25JSXB. Old part (was clicking frequently) had orange wire connected to N and black to L. New part has connector #2 closest to overload, and other connecter furthest away. Thanks! I read previous posts and and sounded like orange (from N) goes to #2. I connected it that way and fridge was on for over 10 minutes before compressor turned on and there wasn't a click. I don't remember if there should be one click when it turns on or if it the clicking was completely abnormal. Thanks!

1 Answer

Julian, You have the overload relay connected properly with the orange at the number 2. The relay will not click when the compressor comes on.
